I see the Parliament Buildings almost daily- in the distance or sometimes I drive by. Rarely do I stop to admire or visit. Taking for granted they, or I, will be here tomorrow. There’s always tomorrow. There’s always another day.
Yet, not that long ago, I moved away from Ottawa-Gatineau and Parliament Hill was no longer in my backyard. I didn’t realize how much I would miss it. Thankfully I’m back in the area and once again seek out the Peace Tower as I drive through town.
Last weekend I decided to play tourist in Ottawa and so, with camera and tripod in tow, I booked into the Lord Elgin hotel. I love staying here as it’s centrally located to everything I wanted to see while in town. My primary purpose was to get out and get lots of pictures and enjoy some night photography as well.
For the first time ever, I visited the war memorial and the tomb of the unknown soldier. I saw some statues/sculptures around Parliament Hill that were new to me and I marveled at the architecture of the Library of Parliament. The view from behind the Parliament Buildings was pretty spectacular too!
I enjoyed some night photography with my niece Shaeleen and we had fun trying light painting.
All in all it was a great weekend. I highly recommend spending time as a backyard tourist!
